Our Faculty of Communication Students Participated in the “Sonic Resilience: The Fabric of Truth” Workshop
Students from the Başkent University Faculty of Communication participated in a workshop titled “Sonic Resilience: The Fabric of Truth,” hosted by the Ankara University Faculty of Communication. The program focused on environmental journalism, climate-related disinformation, and audio-based media production. Centered around the European Union’s 2050 climate-neutrality goals and emissions data, the program saw our final-year Communication and Design students, Abdullah Hamza Yıldırım and Sude Çevrim, examine the mechanisms of disinformation encountered within environmental journalism.
Our students investigated how misinformation regarding climate change is generated and circulated, while also evaluating the critical role of scientific data in journalistic processes. During a radio workshop held as part of the program, they explored the narrative potential offered by audio, podcasting, and radio as tools for combating climate-related disinformation.
Through hands-on projects, our students created audio-based content, gaining practical experience in how environmental issues can be communicated across various media formats. The program—which featured contributions from international participants and various institutions—helped our students further develop their knowledge and skills in environmental journalism, digital media literacy, and the fight against disinformation. We congratulate our students, Abdullah Hamza Yıldırım and Sude Çevrim, for successfully representing our faculty. We would like to thank the Delegation of the European Union to Turkey, the Ankara University Faculty of Communication, the French Institute in Turkey (Institut français de Turquie), the Goethe-Institut, Radio Corax, and Apaçık Radyo for their contributions to the organization of this program.
