Online Digital Media Literacy Certificate Programme Focusing on Disinformation

The Online Digital Media Literacy Certificate Programme Focusing on Disinformation is funded by the European Union Delegation to Turkey and implemented by the Faculty of Communication at Başkent University.

Programme Objective: Disinformation is one of the fundamental issues we must combat in order to achieve a more democratic and empowered society. Media literacy is a key tool in combating disinformation, which contains misleading and/or false content. Media-literate individuals are at an advantage over others because they are more aware, can make more informed choices, and can protect themselves and their family members from inappropriate/incorrect content. Due to the impact of today's technological transformations, not only media literacy but also digital media literacy has gained importance. To raise awareness in society on this issue, it is necessary to start with the experts in the field. Communication faculty students, as the experts of the future, have a special priority in this awareness-raising activity to combat disinformation and the spread of fake news. The aim of this programme is to empower communication faculty students in Turkey in digital media literacy.
