The opening lecture of the 2023-2024 Academic Year at the Faculty of Communication was held on Tuesday, 10 October, at 2:00 p.m. in Amphitheatre 1, with the participation of Prof. Dr. Oya TOKGÖZ, students and academics.
Tokgöz, who stated that she began working as an assistant at a higher education institution after returning to Turkey, emphasised that one of her most important tasks was translating terms and concepts in the field of communication from English to Turkish. Tokgöz noted that at the time, there was a limited professional terminology specific to journalism and radio in Turkish, while the terminology for television, cinema, and communication had not yet been established. ‘Foreign concepts needed to be adapted to Turkish. We did all of this during that period, and the same terminology is still in use today,’ she said.
Continuing his speech with examples from his personal life and professional experience, Tokgöz also provided information to the audience about the books he has published, including ‘Basic Journalism’ and ‘Memoirs of a Pioneer.’ The opening lecture concluded with a question-and-answer session and a group photo.
