The Film Marathon competition, organized in collaboration with Başkent University's Faculty of Communication and Faculty of Health Sciences, is an event open to students from both faculties, with the aim of producing creative and high-quality work within a framework of collaboration, interdisciplinary and systematic work.

Film Marathon HIV/AIDS Awareness Public Service Announcement Competition 2018
The HIV/AIDS Awareness Public Service Announcement Competition, organized by the Department of Health Management, Faculty of Health Sciences, Başkent University, and open to undergraduate students of Başkent University and Hacettepe University, was held at Başkent University between November 19 and 23, 2018, with the aim of showcasing high-quality work and encouraging creative young people to collaborate through interdisciplinary work. The Film Marathon was organized by the Faculty of Communication at Başkent University.
After receiving applications from students at Başkent University and Hacettepe University, 27 students participated in the Marathon, working in groups to produce their films over the course of a week. The week-long Film Marathon began with an educational program aimed at increasing the participants' awareness and knowledge on the subject. Prof. Dr. Simten Malhan provided information on the Public Service Announcement Competition and the HIV/AIDS theme, while Dr. Dilan Akyel gave a basic briefing on HIV/AIDS. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Senem G. Hızal guided the young participants toward creative storytelling within the framework of the Narrative Structure and Technical Features of Public Service Announcements, while representatives from the Young Approaches to Health Association enlightened young people on HIV/AIDS in an interactive format and demonstrated how a creative approach can be used to educate and raise awareness with the Take Care of Yourself board game.
On the second day of the Film Marathon, where young participants presented their projects and formed working groups, project development work continued under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Nihan G. Işıkman, Assoc. Prof. Senem G. Hızal, Assoc. Prof. Pelin Aytemiz, Dr. Elif Boyacıoğlu, and Lecturer Dr. Gizem A. Mutlu. The films of the participants who completed the shooting and editing processes were screened on November 26, 2018, at the Prof. Dr. Abdullah Demirtaş Conference Hall and presented to the jury.
HIV/AIDS Awareness Public Service Announcement Competition Award Ceremony
The winners of the public service announcement competition aimed at raising awareness about HIV/AIDS have been announced.
The winners of the “HIV/AIDS Awareness Public Service Announcement Competition,” organized by Başkent University and Hacettepe University with the unconditional support of Gilead Sciences Turkey, were announced at a ceremony held on December 25, 2018, at the Prof. Dr. İhsan Doğramacı Conference Hall.
The award ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Kenan Araz, former Rector of Başkent University; Prof. Dr. Nermin Özgülbaş, Vice Rector of Başkent University; Prof. Dr. Şahin Kavuncubaşı, Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences; Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Özcan Yağcı, Head of the Department of Health Management Prof. Dr. Simten Malhan, and Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hacettepe University and Director of HATAM Prof. Dr. Serhat Ünal, as well as academics and students.
In her speech at the ceremony, Başkent University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nermin Özgülbaş said, “The aim of our university is not only to educate students but also to evaluate social health issues from a social perspective. In this context, we are very happy that our students are participating in such a project.”
Prof. Dr. Simten Malhan, Head of the Health Management Department at Başkent University SBF, said, "The results of the world's largest HIV/AIDS awareness survey revealed that the level of knowledge about HIV infection in our society is quite low. Even those with higher levels of education do not know what HIV/AIDS is and are unaware that individuals infected with HIV can lead normal lives. We launched this project to draw attention to this issue and increase awareness among university students."
At the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Serhat Ünal, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at Hacettepe University and Director of HATAM, gave a speech on “HIV/AIDS in all its aspects” and stated that this competition was an important step in raising awareness about HIV/AIDS. Toros Şahin, Director of External Relations at Gilead Sciences Turkey, which provided unconditional support for the event, said, “In addition to our research and the treatments we develop, we support scientific and social projects worldwide to help control HIV/AIDS.”
As a result of the jury's evaluation in the “HIV/AIDS Awareness Public Service Announcement Competition,” first place went to Burak Yiğit, Duygu Kayaoğlu, and Irmak Kabadere with their project “We Can Do It,” second place went to Mustafa Eren Ergünel with his project “Dream,” and third place went to Tolgahan Yılmaz, Ahmet Ulaş, and Zeynep Naz Uzun. The honorable mention award was given to Gökalp Deniz Sinangil for the “Talk, Protect, Get Tested” project and to Furkan Yılmaz and Aslıhan Yıldız for the “It Doesn't Spread” project.
