Şakir Kaleli, Honorary Member of the Supreme Court of Appeals, was the guest of the “Media Meetings” held on the 26th of April 2017 with the cooperation of Başkent University Faculty of Law and Faculty of Communication.

Şakir Kaleli adress the participants with the title “Memoirs of a Lawman”. The meeting, which took place at the Başkent University Faculty of Law Court Hall, was attended by students and special guests; Başkent University Founder Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal, Rector of Başkent University Prof. Dr. Ali Haberal, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Mithat Çoruh, previous rector Prof. Dr. Kenan Araz, Başkent University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Nermin Özgülbaş, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Kudret Güven, Dean of the Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Özcan Yağcı. The panel was moderated by Başkent University Faculty of Communication Lecturer Prof. Dr. Doğan Tılıç. In the meeting where Şakir Kaleli shared his memories and explained the deficiencies in the legal system with examples, he made recommendations to the lawyers of the future; “Take care of the procedural law. Make the right decisions. I have my signature in most of the cases against Demirel, but nothing has been implied. Because the trials were held in faith and trust.” Şakir Kaleli also emphasized the difficulties and subtleties of the profession of judge, and expressed that the profession is an honorable profession and it would be right for students to choose this profession. Emphasizing that those who choose to work in the field of law should be reliable people and make decisions with a free thought without being under any influence, Şakir Kaleli also answered the questions of the students.

Başkent University Founder Prof. Dr. Mehmet Haberal also explained his reasons by stating that medicine and judgeship are the two most important professions in the world. Prof. Dr. Haberal also shared his new suggestions for legal education, saying, "There is no happiness where there is no justice and freedom." At the end of the panel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. Mithat Çoruh and Başkent University Rector Prof. Dr. Ali Haberal presented a plaque and flowers to Şakir Kaleli, Honorary Member of the Supreme Court.
